These thick and soft, luxury deep-pile, hand made rugs are hand crafted in Britain using a traditional carpet yarn of 80% wool and 20% nylon and a natural linen or wool warp, ensuring that they are soft to the touch but hardwearing. They do not have the problems of some synthetic fibre rugs that cause static electricity and to which dirt clings making them difficult to clean. Wool rugs shrug off dirt and are easy to clean. Also, no adhesives are used in these handknotted rugs, so there is no chemical odour.
Each of these hand crafted rugs has many thousands of knots, all tied by hand. It takes three to four weeks to make one rug. The result is a very thick pile rug which is soft and luxurious. These rugs are hand made in rural Wales. It is unusual for hand knotted rugs to be made in the UK.
The way these deep pile handknotted rugs are made is the same way that Oriental rugs have been made for hundreds of years. The knots are each tied by hand onto the warp stretched on the loom (see picture on the left). This is different from a tufted rug made using a tufting gun (see the notes on the FAQ page which explains the difference). A rug can make all the difference to the look of a room. These rugs are made by hand which means that they are unique. They are soft and warm with the luxury of a deep pile of rich wool. The unique designs are created by the Handweaver. Most are inspired by Celtic art interpreted to suit modern homes.
