Welcome to this website for British made handknotted rugs lovingly made by a hand loom weaver in rural Wales using high quality wool rug yarn. These designer rugs are a work of art for your floor or you can hang them on the wall. Prices start at £78 for a small rug. Custom made rugs. A range of rugs is shown on this website but you can also commission different sizes, colours and designs of made-to-measure rugs. Your choice of design can be quite different from the styles shown on this website. For example you may want a plain rug in a special colour to match your sofa. Click on the link for more details about bespoke rugs.
All these unique handmade rugs are created on a hand weaving loom using traditional crafts and high quality wool mix rug yarn. Wool is much nicer than synthetic fibres. It is soft and springy and easy to keep clean. Also no adhesives are used to make these rugs so there is no chemical odour.
These hand-knotted rugs are made in Wales using the same method that has been used for hundreds of years to make Oriental carpets and Scandinavian rya rugs. There are very few people making hand knotted rugs in Britain. Most handknotted rugs are made in Asia or the Middle East.
The picture on the right shows one of the rugs on the hand loom during the making of this rug. The picture below on the right shows the Handweaver knotting the yarn during the making of a rug. Each knot is individually tied by hand.
Hand knotted is different from hand tufted. Hand knotting is a very slow process, one that has been used for centuries. It produces thick and luxurious quality rugs that last for many years. Hand tufting is a much quicker modern method using a tufting gun. Please see the rug making page and the FAQ page for more information.
