How to commission a rug to be made specially for you
The photos on this page are of a custom made rug for a lady wanting a rug in various shades of blue to complement her carpet and sofa. This is the rug on the loom.
Your choice of size
The Handweaver can produce a rug or wall hanging specially for you within the size limits of the hand loom.
The maximum width is 95 cm (37 inches).
The maximum length is 1.5 metres (5 feet).
Although the standard size for a rug is 3 feet x 5 feet (90 x 150 cm), the Handweaver specialises in producing smaller rugs to order such as 2 feet by 3 feet (60 cm x 92 cm).
Your choice of colourThe Handweaver can dye the rug yarn by hand to produce colours to match your requirements. You can send a sample of the colour such as a small piece of the fabric or carpet you wish to match and the yarn will be dyed by hand to your requirements. The order process
After discussing your rug with you, a small sample is made and sent to you, so that you can approve the colours and design.
It takes at least three to four weeks to produce a commissioned rug (sometimes longer if the Handweaver is in the process of making a large rug when you place your order). You will be kept informed of progress by email (or by telephone if you prefer).
The photo on the right is the finished rug which is made with around 30,000 knots all tied by hand. The colours shade from the outside to the centre and along the length of the rug.
Price
The price is £15 a square foot (£160 per square metre) for a hand knotted rug (or shaggy rug, rya rug). For example a rug 70 cm x 100 cm (27.5 inches x 39.5 inches) costs £112, including free delivery to an address in the UK mainland (cannot ship overseas). The price will be agreed with you when you place your order.
