Hand Knotted Ivory and Gold Rug This deep pile shaggy rug is a handknotted rug made in Britain using the same method that is used to make Oriental carpets and Scandinavian rya rugs. The knots are each tied by hand onto the warp stretched on the loom (see photo below left). There are 10,000 individually hand tied knots in this rug. This is different from a tufted rug made using a tufting gun (see the notes on the
FAQ page which explains the difference) and the
rug making page.
This wool rug is very soft to the touch, thick and luxurious, as well as having a unique design. This design is a modern interpretation of the traditional Celtic spiral motif.

The pile is 3.7 cm (approx 1.5 inches) long on average. It is cut diagonally to produce long and short ends for an extra shaggy texture. The rows of knots are close together so that the pile stands up, making this a very thick pile rug in a luxurious blend of ivory and gold rug yarn (80% wool and 20% nylon). This yarn is the ideal blend for rugs and carpets - wool shrugs off the dirt and nylon adds resilience.
